Cookie Project, Budgeting, and Creating Soil

As we finished up our last full week of January, the students completed a unit on economics (except for Tuesday's "Cookie Project") and began a science unit on rocks, minerals, and fossils, including creating their own soil today.

Students partake in a problem-solving scenario in math class.

We learned how to use store circulars to hunt for deals.

Our Scholastic bonus points earned us 15 free books this month!

Students taught math lessons and checked each others' work.

Today, we worked at creating our own soil from humus (living materials) and broken rocks.

Warm Weather & Projects

The fifth grade has enjoyed having Miss Em (an education student at Pensacola Christian College) in our classroom for the past week, helping out and teaching math lessons. We also did some acting, created some art, completed some projects, and played outside.

Miss Em uses the smartboard to teach the students about angles.

Videos: The Books of the Bible and Math Videos 65-68

We've been going over the books of the Bible in Bible class this past week. Students will need to say the books of the Old Testament on Friday. They can use this song, any other song, or just recite them (I can only do it if I'm singing!). Here's the one we've been using in class.

Here are the math videos for the next week - 65, 66, 67, and 68.

Lesson 65: Decimal Parts of a Meter

Lesson 66: Reading a Centimeter Scale

Lesson 67: Writing Tenths and Hundredths as Decimal Numbers

Lesson 68: Naming Decimal Numbers
